Pain in the...

acupuncture pain awareness month

Did you know - chronic pain is #1 cause of lost workdays in the US?  It affects more people than cancer, heart disease and diabetes combined, with over 100 million Americans suffering from chronic pain.  September is Pain Awareness Month -- time when the American Chronic Pain Association works to help recognize the effects of pain and the symptoms associated with pain so that individuals can find appropriate relief and regain a strong quality of life.

American College of Physicians 2017 guidelines states that acupuncture should be a first-line treatment for back pain - it should be considered before drugs, injections, surgery, or other invasive treatments.

Over 80% of Americans will suffer from chronic pain at some point in their life! Acupuncture is an amazing modality for treatment of chronic pain. A 2012 found acupuncture excelled at the treatment of chronic pain conditions: 1) Back and neck pain, 2) Osteoarthritis (your doctor may call it “degenerative joint disease” or “wear and tear arthritis"), 3) Chronic headache, and 4) Shoulder pain. In fact, the American College of Physicians 2017 guidelines states that acupuncture should be a first-line treatment for back pain - it should be considered before drugs, injections, surgery, or other invasive treatments.

What does this mean for you? If you're in pain, call your acupuncturist! Acupuncture can relieve pain without the use of drugs or surgical procedures. Acupuncture is minimally invasive, low-risk, and does not have any side effects.  With acupuncture, chronic pain doesn't have to be a way of life!
