Can You Spot Your Spots?

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States and UV radiation from the sun and tanning booths is the most common cause of skin cancer. Because we live in the beautiful sun-drenched southwest, Arizona residents are often exposed to UV radiation on a daily basis year-round.

The good news? Skin cancer can almost always be cured when found and treated early. Do you know how to check your skin for changes recognize possible skin cancer? The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends that everyone practice monthly head-to-toe self examination of their skin in order to find any new or changing lesions that might be cancerous or precancerous. They also offer many resources about the warnings signs of skin cancer and what to look for during a self examination.

Even better news? Regular use of sunscreen containing SPF 15 or higher offers protection from UV radiation. During the month of May, we are offering 25% off Mad Hippie SPF30+ sunscreen (regularly priced at $25.99). This amazing formula contains zinc oxide to offer full spectrum UVA/UVB protection without the use of chemical blocking agents. It also contains added antioxidants to help curb skin aging that is a result of free radical damage from sun exposure.

Take simple steps today to protect your skin:

  • Stay out of the sun between 10am and 4pm.
  • Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher; apply every 2 hours and after you swim or sweat.
  • Cover up with long sleeves and a hat.
  • Check your skin regularly for changes.
