Did you know Traditional Chinese Medicine views your face as a map indicating the overall health and wellness of your body?

That means Traditional Chinese Medicine skincare specialists, like myself, are trained to understand the systemic difference between a blemish on your forehead and one on your cheek. Talk about truly customized skincare, that heals your body from the inside out, and is tailored to your individual needs!

Chinese Face Mapping is an ancient practice that links what shows up on your face to your inner health. This is why redness, dry patches or Acne can be directly attributed to the inner workings of your body. Face Mapping can give you valuable insights because each section of your face represents vital organs. Your upper cheeks for example are linked to your lungs and your eyes to your kidneys.

Here’s a sampling of what tends to show up on each part of the face:

Forehead/T-Zone - toxin buildup, poor circulation, stress, coffee, over consumption of alcohol

Chin/Jaw/Neck - hormone imbalance, processed sugar, starchy foods.

Cheeks - smoking, dirty pillows, dirty cellphone, over consumption of dairy, stress

Nose - poor diet, indigestion, bloating

If you are looking for a professional, custom assessment of your skin, the Traditional Chinese Medicine way, schedule an appointment to see Dr. Constance Bradley, a Nationally Board Certified Acupuncturist specializing in Cosmetic Facial Rejuvenation. Appointments are available in person and via telehealth.

In the meantime, here are some tips for what you can do right now to improve your skin:

  1. Quit all processed foods and all foods that contain sugar, fructose, glucose, etc. Yes, this means forgoing fruit until the situation is under control.

  2. Avoid dairy; milk, butter, cheese, ice cream, yogurt, etc.

  3. Be mindful of the amount of cold, raw food you consume, especially if you have puffiness.

  4. Avoid artificial sweeteners, foods that contain hydrogenated oils, and any fried foods

  5. Avoid alcohol

  6. Take at least 2 EPA/DHA fish oil capsules per day– (although flax oil contains EPA/DHA, it doesn’t work as well as fish oil in improving the skin.)
