Are You The Fire Type?
Welcome, summer!
Summer is Fire season so we will kick off our deep-dive into the Five Element types with Fire! Let’s learn more about those people who are governed by the Fire element (not sure which element governs you? Check out THIS post)
When someone is governed by Fire, they are strongly influenced by joy, strength, and wisdom.
Fire Type - Emotional Characteristics
Fire people are energetic, they believe in the power of charisma and desire. The have creative potential, are intuitive, and passionately emphatic. Fire types love sensation, drama, and sentiment. Like a moth drawn to a campfire, those governed by the Fire element easily attract the attention of others with their sparkling, effervescent personalities. Fire people are social creatures who dislike being alone; they come alive in the company of others. They are the ‘life of the party,’ become excited easily, and are very fun-loving and romantic.
Fire Type - Physical Characteristics
Physically speaking, Fire people have rosy complexions, thin faces, and have muscular backs/shoulders. They tend to walk + talk quickly, feel warm (perhaps even sweating), and have a big appetite as well as a strong metabolism (lucky!)
Celebrity fire types include Cameron Diaz, Ryan Gosling, and Audrey Hepburn.
Fire Types - In Balance
When Fire people are balanced, they are energetic, passionate, social, creative, and intuitive. They tend to be the ‘idea person’ in a group as they are easily excitable. When in balance, Fire people are filled with joy, excitement, and charismatic.
In balance fire types are:
Energetic
Passionate
Creative
Social
Intuitive
Fire Types - Out of Balance
When Fire types are imbalanced, they are prone to feeling isolated, empty, and hopeless. It is common for Fire types to have ‘boundary issues’ and, when imbalanced, feel as though they let others ‘run all over them.’ Fire people can suffer from anxiety, insomnia, and cardiovascular problems (such as hypertension, varicose veins, palpitations, sweating, and high cholesterol). Fire types need to be cautious with inflammation as they are prone to fevers, skin disorders, and inflammatory disease.
Out of balance fire types are:
Anxious
Can’t sleep well
Feel isolated and hopeless
Suffer from cardiovascular and skin disorders
Fire Tips for Better Health
If you are governed by Fire, incorporate dark leafy vegetables (kale, collards, chard, etc.); bitter foods such as asparagus, boy choy, and dandelion; grains such as amaranth, oats, and barley; cooling foods such as citrus, melons, mint, and white fish. Avoid warming foods such as garlic, onions, peanuts, refined sugar, and barbecued/fried foods. Gently steaming foods will be beneficial as this adds cooling and moisture.
Try to avoid very hot weather (sorry, Arizona Fire friends), drink plenty of water, and get outside and take walks in nature. Incorporate calming practices such as meditation, yin yoga, and deep breathing techniques. Talk to your acupuncturist about Chinese herbs that can help support your heart and nervous system.
Treatments that help balance the Fire element include Acupuncture, Cupping, and Gua Sha. If you are governed by the Fire element, an Acupuncture Facial can help you feel calm, relaxed, and promote the health of your skin.
